Helping Your Business Start, Grow and Succeed
"Opening Cura Bella Grooming has been a rewarding challenge. My husband and I have been involved in the care of animals during our young adult lives. In high school, Marcus bred chihuahuas. I was involved in FFA showing various animals. We started a family in 2011. As our family grew, we decided to breed French Bulldogs as a hobby in 2012. Since then, we have developed their skills in animal care. From dog-sitting to whelping puppies. The idea of dog grooming came into play. We began to see a need for a new type of service, a need for a more open, more personal experience for dogs and owners alike. The vision was cast was that we wanted to provide our community with a safe, comfortable place to bring their pets for grooming services. A spa where dogs couldn’t wait to come in and be pampered, to be spoiled and treated like family. So, we opened Cura Bella Grooming and plan to continue to expand beyond grooming services in the future.

The foundation for Cura Bella is based on a love for animals. The words Cura Bella stand for “beautiful groom” in Italian. Marcus and Jessica, the owners, have been involved in the care of animals during their young adult lives. In high school, Marcus bred Chihuahuas, while Jessica was involved in FFA, showing various animals. They started a family in 2011 and began breeding French Bulldogs as a hobby in 2012. Over the years, they developed their skills in animal care, from dog-sitting to whelping puppies.

The idea of dog grooming came into play when they saw a need for a new type of service—an open, personal experience for dogs and owners alike. Marcus and Jessica wanted to provide the community with a safe, comfortable place for pets to be groomed, pampered, and treated like family. They plan to be involved in the community through partnerships with local AG programs and hosting community activities. At Cura Bella, it’s more than just a groom; it’s about making customers feel welcome and confident in receiving top-quality services.

One of the challenges Marcus and Jessica faced was building clientele in the beginning and figuring out what type of exposure to focus on. The biggest challenge was having the building ready, which was out of their control and required a lot of patience.

The SBDC provided the extra guidance and information needed to feel more confident in opening Cura Bella. They helped with creating a business plan, figuring out startup costs, and offering ideas and input on moving forward.

The most important part of the assistance received from SBDC was the guidance through the business plan and the support in opening Cura Bella. Marcus and Jessica’s vision of providing top-quality grooming services in a safe, welcoming environment has become a reality, and they continue to grow and serve the community with pride.
